NuArt legger ned

Gatekunstfestivalen NuArt er ferdig.

Sitat fra Martyn Reed:
"The truth is, as much as we appreciate the huge amount of support we’ve received over the years from the people and businesses of Stavanger, it’s been quite some time since we’ve had similar support from the cultural administration. There’s a limit to how far you can go as an independent producer here in Stavanger, particularly if you’re none profit based as Nuart is. Funding levels are capped, ensuring that you can survive , which is terrific at start up phase, but also ensuring that you can’t expand and thrive once you get there. This is a systemic issue that needs to be resolved because it encourages policy based on antipathies and sympathies whilst creating hierarchies of power as opposed to competence. As the festival has expanded, so have the obstacles. In 2020, despite strong cross party political support,  the cultural administration collectively decided to propose that Nuart Festival funding be cut. We could find no logical reasoning for this, and to this day haven’t been offered one. We spent a huge amount of time and energy lobbying Politically to have these proposed cuts reversed, which thankfully, they were. Ultimately, and ironically perhaps, we didn’t use any of the funds and will now be returning them. But to now be sending the same applications, to the same administration under the same conditions as the previous year, seemed a little futile. In effect, this closes Nuart Festival, though of course we’ll continue to work on individual projects with both public and private sector. We have a terrific working relationship with other departments in the Kommune such as Smart City and Byutvikling and also with Fylkeskommune of course, so there’ll be plenty of other projects being announced. But for now and the foreseeable future, Nuart Festival is no more."
